IISME’s Future Connections (FC) exposes large numbers of teachers to the skill requirements of the 21st Century workplace through one-day industry visits, which include a one-on-one job shadow component. Attendees improve their understanding of the math and science content in many of today’s jobs and the skills required for success in tomorrow’s work environment. They also make connections with company employees who later serve as classroom resources. - In the program’s six years, Future Connections has provided over 2,400 K-16 teachers of all subjects, counselors, principals, superintendents and school board members insight into the overall business operations, and specific skill requirements of successful Bay Area companies.
- Over the years, 88 Bay Area companies have hosted 128 educator trips; many host multiple times.
- Participants have scored FC trips on average 8.8 on a 1-to-10 scale, where 10=the best staff development day ever experienced.
